Megan and Jess Celebrate

Congratulations to Megan and Jess who celebrated their NVD anniversaries in October.

Megan joined the NVD team in 2012 just before we made the move to our new premises. During the time Megan has been on the NVD team she has worked chair side with all of our dentists and in the sterilization room. Today Megan can been seen spending most of her time working with the reception team,  as well as maintaining our practice Marketing .

While Jess is one of our more recent additions to the NVD family, we would already be lost with out her. Jess came to NVD in 2017 with some years of experience in the Dental Industry. Jess has a passion for exceeding patient expectations and has exceptional communication skills.

Both Megan and Jess bring a professional, caring and fun approach to our NVD Team.

Infection Control Training

Megan, Teylah and Vidisha recently attended a Continual Professional Development day at the Australian Dental Association Queensland branch on the Recent Developments on Infection Control. The training day was presented by Prof Laurie Walsh and covered the minimum requirements that need to be met for infection control in Dental Practices as well as changes we can expect to see in the future.

As an Accredited Dental Practice we are committed to constantly improving the safety of our patients. It was reassuring to hear Prof Laurie speak of the policies, procedures and standards that Nundah Village Dental already had in place. Megan, Teylah and Vidisha presented their findings at a full NVD staff training afternoon. The information that was presented has motivated our team to continue to exceed the minimum requirements of Infection Control and the importance it plays not only in our practice but the wider community.

Medical Emergency Training

Thank you to Shane from Cynergex for coming in and training our team on how to respond Medical Emergencies. Completing this training gives us the most up to date skills and confidence to deal with a medical emergency at our clinic. The afternoon covered basic first aid information through to advanced CPR and how to use a defibrillator and maintain airways. The afternoon was also a reminder as to why it is important to ensure your dentist knows of any medical conditions you have and any medications you take, it ensures we can treat you safely. As an Accredited Dental Practice we collect this information on a signed medical form yearly.

Same Day Crowns

CEREC is the latest technology designed to accurately restore your tooth with long lasting tooth coloured ceramic in one visit.

Traditional fillings placed directly in the mouth are plastic and it can be difficult to make a perfectly smooth and well-shaped restoration of your tooth.  The fillings may end up with weaknesses, voids, bubbles or overhanging margins that are difficult to clean and can be a further decay risk over time.  To overcome this, and especially for weak and extensively damaged teeth, your dentist would typically recommend a crown or ‘indirect restoration’.  This is when a stronger gold or ceramic tooth replacement is made outside of the mouth after taking an impression or mould of your tooth. Once the perfect shape and polish is achieved, the new crown is cemented over the damaged or weak tooth base.

CEREC utilises CAD-CAM technology so that a 3D scan of your tooth is digitally recorded on a computer. A pure ceramic crown is milled by a computer while you wait.  Instead of your crown taking 2 weeks to make, you can have your treatment in one visit without using an impression tray, without any annoying provisional crown and with only one injection.

For us, CEREC stands for speed and comfort.
